3 blind mice

"If the blind lead the blind, then
they all fall into the ditch."

{ Matthew 15:14 }

There's nothing "religious"  or
 "right" about unsuspecting sheep
being mislead by blind shepherds !

Clergy & other Leaders of "Religious" Organizations :

The "Reverends" Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart, David Koresh and Jim Jones were not the first charismatic charlatans to lead gullible religious people astray.  And they won't be the last.  Jones and Koresh took most of their followers with them to the grave.  Not so the followers of Bakker and Swaggart, many of whom may now be following the likes of Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson,  if not Bakker and Swaggart themselves!
[ Our apologies to blind people, who don't deserve to be associated in any way with people who have eyes to see and choose not to see – which is what Jesus was talking about when he warned against "the blind leading the blind".--  It is so cruel and benighted when people look down on those who are sightless through no fault of their own.  Some so-called Christians have even been known to blame such people for their sightlessness!  How sad.  Such ignorance is a far more tragic affliction than the inability to see!

Before we get into the more famous of the church's "blind mice", we would like to call your attention to some lesser rodents of the "Religious Right".  But if you can't wait, you may go immediately to blind leader Pat Robertson or to blind leader Jerry Falwell.

To Rayosun :
"You are among the most dispicable(sic) line of those that I have encountered who attempt to attack and denigrade (sic) the Word of God.  A "bottom feeder" you are and trying to feed the same "draught" you feed on to others."
And then again on 7/10/02 : "But, oh Sunofsatan, YOU do not believe the Bible is correct!  So, by what verse do you judge me?  And, what about yourself evil one?"
        If this "Rev." has ever read the following teaching of Jesus, it appears not to have made much of a dent on his character : { Matthew 5: 22 }

"You have heard that it was said to those of ancient times, 'You shall not murder'; and 'whoever murders shall be liable to judgment.'  But I say to you that if you are angry with a brother or sister, you will be liable to judgment; and if you insult a brother or sister, you will be liable to the council; and if you say, 'You fool,' you will be liable to the hell of fire."

It's not the personal stuff that bothers me most about Rev. Ron, however. The real reason this preacher and his "significant other" deserve a special place on our "Blind Leaders" page is because they have brought hypocrisy to a whole new level.  It seems that while they have been spending countless hours threatening homosexuals with hell fire, unless and until they turn away from their sinful life style, they themselves have been openly living in sin.
If you count Dolly's adultery for marrying Ron after divorcing her true husband, and Ron's adultery for living with a woman not his true wife, they are publicly living in at least double adultery.  But Dollie, who often joins Rev. Ron in proclaiming the sinfulness of homosexuality online, defends her adultery as follows:

"Ron and Dolly (i.e. herself) have a very faithful marriage, thank you.  Ron and Dolly know better than to think they could control the actions of their previous spouses.  Ron and Dolly also know that those who presume to know what happened in Ron and Dolly's previous marriages need to get a better grip on paying that kind of attention and expounding that amount of energy to their own marriages.  Ron and Dolly also know that there are many marriages that are that long in length that are unhappy and need something to revive them.  Ron and Dolly suggest those that continue to be obsessed with Ron and Dolly's marriage and previous marriages put that time and energy into their OWN marriages to help revive them.  Ron and Dolly thank you for butting out of their lives and paying attention to your own.  It's clear that your own lives are sadly lacking in attention and vitality."

And RevRonC1 proclaims that Mike and his gay partner have no business reminding heterosexuals about Jesus' teaching on divorce and remarriage : (see Mark 10 below:)
"Very well said my love (addressing his own wife's comments), but you have to remember that mikeymg doesn't have a "marriage" as defined by God who "invented" and "defined" marriage.  So therefore, there is nothing that mikey should be putting his attention and energy into in that arena.  But, you are correct, if their lives and marriages are that great, what are they doing spending so much time in here away from their loved ones????  Plus digging into our lives???  At least wherever we go, we go together.

According to Mark, Ch. 10:2-12

"Some Pharisees came, and to test Jesus they asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"  He answered them, "What did Moses command you?"  They said, "Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of dismissal and to divorce her."
But Jesus said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart he wrote this commandment for you.  But from the beginning of creation, 'God made them male and female.'  'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one flesh.  Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate."
Then in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter.  He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her;  and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery."

"Liberals Like Christ" have reservations about the bible, and deny that every verse of Scripture is equally inspired, they don't feel compelled to follow all Scripture literally themselves and they don't preach that others do so.
But for conservatives, who insist that every verse of the Bible is equally inspired   a n d  inerrant, to try to excuse and defend divorce and remarriage, which Jesus condemned in no uncertain terms, is the epitome of hypocrisy !!!!!  Such Conservatives want to be as liberal as can be in secret, when it suits them , while condemning others for being liberal openly and honestly !!!!
"Conservatives" can be so strict when it comes to applying Scripture to others, and so "Liberal" when it comes to applying it to themselves !
Rev. Ron claims that his Harvestime Ministries is dedicated to "promoting the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the World", but for Ron and Dolly, that doesn't mean that Mark 10:1-12 (above) needs to be obeyed in their own bedroom!

( I welcome any well-documented examples such as these.  Just send them to me at Ray@LiberalsLikeChrist.Org .  If that doesn't work on your computer, just use that handle in your e-mail program.)

"Christian" conservative voters have such inspired leaders
to guide their votes these days,
like these wealthiest preachers in America :

PatRobertson Is the Rev. Pat Robertson
really a "man of God" ?
Or is he rather

"a man of Gold" ?

"You say you're supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and the Methodists and this, that, and the other thing.  Nonsense, I don't have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist."
( Robertson on his TV program, The 700 Club, 1/14/1991 )

"I know this is painful for the ladies to hear, but if you get married, you have accepted the headship of a man, your husband.  Christ is the head of the household and the husband is the head of the wife, and that's the way it is, period."
( Robertson newsletter, 9/11/1992 )
.  "[The] feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women.  It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians."
Pat Robertson, in a fundraising letter.

Many Conservative Christians have no problem with millionaire "Rev." Pat Robertson's professing to represent Jesus of Nazareth, who was no friend of the rich.  But there is a great deal about this shadowy man behind the "Christian Coalition" that should trouble any Christian, no matter how "Conservative".  Most of the quotes below are from the recent book by journalist James Retter, called Anatomy of a Scandal.
When Pat Robertson (son of a U.S. Senator, lawyer, big business man, TV evangelist and Conservative leader) decided to run for the presidency (as a Republican) in 1988, he "made integrity and moral values the core issues of his presidential campaign.  In the speech for his declaration of candidacy, he said, 'We must bring back the old-fashioned concept of moral restraint and abstinence before marriage.' " (p.174)
Now, when asked if it was true, as reported in the Wall Street Journal, that his own marriage had occurred on Aug. 27, 1954, just 2 1/2 months before his son was born, Robertson claimed that he was married six months earlier.  In an 10/08/87 interview with the Washington Post, he said, "I did give an honest answer" explaining that he and his wife have always considered March 22 (his own birthday) the day they were married because "our son was conceived on that day."   The couples' legal marriage on August 27, 1954, "to us, wasn't any big deal." Pat&Rudy
The candidate told the Washington Post on 10/8/97 that it would be an error to suggest that 'there had been a pattern of deceptions' in his writings and speeches.  He said he may have occasionally  – and inadvertently -  said something 'imprecise,' and that he may have used a 'malapropism' on occasion.  But he added emphatically 'I have not lied about my marriage or anything.' " (p. 172-3)   "But the questions kept coming.  An angrier Robertson said,  ' I think it is outrageous to pry into a man's past and try to do damage to a man's wife and children under the guise of journalism.' " (p. 174)

Rev. Doctor Robertson

An episcopal priest and college professor, who also earned a law degree wrote me this note about the so-called "Rev. Doctor Robinson":
"When he ran for president years ago, he told people he had a law degree from Oxford. Being a lawyer myself, I found that quite impressive. But I had to wonder, why would a man with this kind of education say such stupid things on such a regular basis. So, I did a little investigation. The truth is, Robertson attended a non-credit summer course at Oxford. He didn't get a degree there. Indeed, I seem to remember that he never completed a degree anywhere. As someone who's been through the brutal process of law school and admission to the Florida Bar, I have little respect for anyone who would tell such a pathetic lie as Pat told, one which was so easily discovered."

However disturbing the dishonesty about his "private life"   – because of the hypocrisy of such a man posing as a miracle-working evangelist and as a missionary –   it pales in comparison to what "Rev." Pat Robertson has been doing on the world and national scenes.  Few people who see this preacher on TV have any knowledge of Pat Robertson, the diamond and gold miner of Zaire and close friend of its' murderous dictator-president.

"Until recently (President Mobutu) was one of the world's longest-reigning dictators . . .  coming to power in 1960, when civil war broke out after the then-Republic of the Congo gained independence from Belgium.  In Cold War days it was important turf, and the United States and Russia were locked in a bitter conflict, backing opposite sides.  With assistance from the CIA, Mobutu emerged victorious in 1965. . .  During the Reagan years, Mobutu let the CIA use Zaire to launch a secret war against communists in neighboring Angola.  The U.S. gave him more than $1 billion in aid and helped him get millions in World Bank loans.  They ignored his corruption because he was furthering U.S. policy." (pp. 177-78)
"With the enormous natural resources Zaire possesses, it should not only be the richest country in Africa, but one of the richest in the world." (p. 180)  Yet, " under Mobutu, Zaire lacked public transportation, telephones, and health care.  Entire cities were without electricity.  The economy collapsed.   The per capita income dropped from $500 a year in the early '70's to an estimated $115 in 1992.  Inflation ran as high as 12,000 percent. (p. 178)
During this period Pat Robertson took an interest in Zaire.  But while he was supposedly doing missionary work there, he was actually engaged, with the blessings of his unofficial partner, Mobutu, in a very lucrative diamond mining and exporting company, which later expanded to include gold and timber as well.
By 1992 the people of Zaire decided they had had enough.  "One day in Feb. 1992, hundreds of thousands of Christians poured into the streets of Kinshasa for a pro-democracy rally after church services, demanding resumption of " (a year-long conference designed to move the country towards democracy, which the president had been thwarting at every turn.)   "It was the biggest political demonstration in Zaire since the country gained independence.  Mobutu's soldiers opened fire, killing about 200." (p. 178)
"Mobutu was in trouble, so among other things, he called Pat Robertson.  Less than three weeks later, Robertson was on the state-controlled television station (wearing his "Evangelist" hat), embracing Mobutu, calling him a fine Christian, reportedly saying, according to the 1/26/97 Virginian Pilot: 'You don't have to worry about the political situation because God loves your country, you only have to care about the kingdom of God.  Mobutu is a good man.  He got his power from God." (p 178-79)
"The dictator's horrific human-rights record and refusal to embrace democracy  (did not disturb this "man of God", but it )  led to the withdrawal in 1993 of economic aid from Zaire's three main trading partners – the United Sates, France, and Belgium.  The new Clinton administration was taking a hard line and barred Mobutu from entering the country." ( p. 179)
(Two years later, Mobutu gave a lavish welcome to Robertson, whereupon) "the two held a press conference.  Robertson was 'highly critical' of Clinton's sanctions against Mobutu and promised to enlist the help of Republicans like Jesse Helms   (Christian Coalition stalwart and chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations committee) to change the U.S. position. ( p. 179)
"Robertson was comingling business and religion with a brutal dictator who looted and killed his own people.  Human-rights organizations charge Mobutu with personally ordering the execution of hundreds of his countrymen.  None of this ever seemed to bother Robertson, who ignored warnings from his followers as well as from the State Department that he was helping to prolong a reign of terror."  (p. 180)

During this period pilots who worked in Robertson's "Operation Blessings" reported that their work in Zaire didn't involve charity for the poor but enrichment for Pat Robertson.  Is this what made Operation Blessing qualify for one of the first "faith-based initiatives" grants (for $ 500,000) doled out by George W. Bush the administration ?!? See
Tom Paine's article on this monstrous grant.  &

        See this site about
Pat Robertson and/or the Christian Coalition
This is all about Robertson's role in the
Central America liberation struggles of the 1980's .
Check out this spoof on Pat Robertson :
warning to American Christians not to be misled by Jesus!
"We have enough votes to run the country. And when the people say, 'We've had enough,' we are going to take over."
– Pat Robertson, in a speech given to the April, 1980 "Washington for Jesus" rally,  quoted from Robert Boston, The Most Dangerous Man in America, p. 29.

" If Christian people work together, they can succeed during this decade in winning back control of the institutions that have been taken from them over the past 70 years. Expect confrontations that will be not only unpleasant but at times physically bloody.... This decade will not be for the faint of heart, but the resolute. Institutions will be plunged into wrenching change. We will be living through one of the most tumultuous periods of human history. When it is over, I am convinced God's people will emerge victorious." – Pat Robertson's Perspective Oct-Nov 1992.
We at the Christian Coalition are raising an army who cares. We are training people to be effective – to be elected to school boards, to city councils, to state legislatures, and to key positions in political parties.... By the end of this decade, if we work and give and organize and train, the Christian Coalition will be the most powerful political organization in America. – Pat Robertson, in a fundraising letter, July 4, 1991.
"There is no such thing as separation of church and state in the Constitution. It is a lie of the Left and we are not going to take it anymore." – Pat Robertson, address to his American Center for Law and Justice, November, 1993.
" The Constitution of the United States, for instance, is a marvelous document for self-government by the Christian people. But the minute you turn the document into the hands of non-Christian people and atheistic people they can use it to destroy the very foundation of our society. And that's what's been happening." – Pat Robertson, The 700 Club television program, December 30, 1981.
"Only Christians and Jews in Government Individual Christians are the only ones really – and Jewish people, those who trust God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob – are the only ones that are qualified to have the reign, because hopefully, they will be governed by God and submit to Him." – Pat Robertson, The 700 Club television program, January 11, 1985, defending his stance that only Christians and Jews are fit to hold public office I never said that in my life ... I never said only Christians and Jews. I never said that. – Pat Robertson, Time magazine, after having been confronted regarding his statement on The 700 Club of January 11, 1985.
"When I said during my presidential bid that I would only bring Christians and Jews into the government, I hit a firestorm. "What do you mean?" the media challenged me. "You're not going to bring atheists into the government? How dare you maintain that those who believe in the Judeo-Christian values are better qualified to govern America than Hindus and Muslims?" My simple answer is, "Yes, they are." – Pat Robertson, The New World Order, p. 218.
"If anybody understood what Hindus really believe, there would be no doubt that they have no business administering government policies in a country that favors freedom and equality.... Can you imagine having the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini as defense minister, or Mahatma Gandhi as minister of health, education, and welfare? The Hindu and Buddhist idea of karma and the Muslim idea of kismet, or fate condemn the poor and the disabled to their suffering.... It's the will of Allah. These beliefs are nothing but abject fatalism, and they would devastate the social gains this nation has made if they were ever put into practice." – Pat Robertson, The New World Order, p. 219.

"The truth is that people of minority groups, whether they're African American, Hispanics, Asians or whoever, have been denied opportunity in the past in the United States. And there is, without question, an incredible effort on the part of the media and Hollywood screenwriters etc., to elevate these minorities into positions of prominence, at least if nothing else in fictional stories. You look at Morgan Freeman who is a tremendous actor. He started off playing a chauffeur in Driving Miss Daisy and then they elevated him to head of the CIA and then they elevated him to President and in his last role they made him God. I just wonder, isn't Rush Limbaugh right to question the fact, is he that good an actor or not? And was there a preference given? The same thing with the quarterback, did they give him a break? And are the media giving him a break or not?"  --Pat Robertson -Oct. 3rd, 2003 edition of the 700 Club on CBN

Contrast that to Robertson's admiration for his fellow rich, white, protestant, Republican allies like G.W. Bush and Arnold Shwartzeneggar.  It's amazing how Robertson can question how a black man like Freeman can be a success in the fictional world of Hollywood, but not question the success of George W. Bush, who despite being rejected by Texas University, and then being a mediocre student at Yale and Harvard, and a failure at the several businesses he was involved with, (except for the ball team which succeeded at the expense of the local tax-payers who paid for his team's ball park), was a drunk who drove while incapacitated, and possibly a drug user as well, but was lucky enough to have a media that would hide his dismal record so that he could become a mediocre governor and then be proclaimed a great president with no achievements to justify that record !         Robertson's latest African Dictator buddy is the murderous fellow Baptist preacher Charles Taylor, embattled ruler of Liberia ( until he was finally removed from office. ):
Pat Robertson, business partner of Liberian dictator Charles Taylor, defended the man Monday saying, "...we're undermining a Christian, Baptist president to bring in Muslim rebels to take over the country. And how dare the president of the United States say to the duly elected president of another country, 'You've got to step down.'"
Charles Taylor has been accused by the UN of dealing in "conflict" diamonds and gun smuggling supporting atrocities in Sierra Leone including rape, mutilations and murder. The hands of some victims are hacked off as a message to prevent the people from voting. Taylor also has ties to al Qaeda. Faced with charges such as these Taylor has blithely responded, "Jesus Christ was accused of being a murderer in his time."         Pat Robertson entered into a partnership with the Liberian government in a gold mining venture four years ago. Taylor and Robertson have together staged large religious rallies where attendance was often compulsory.         "I have never met Taylor in my life. I don't know what he has done or hasn't done" Robertson told his audience. Relying on ignorance to exonerate himself and a "Baptist President" Robertson has scandalized many conservative Christians. According to the Washington Post, Richard Land, head of the Southern Baptist Convention's public policy arm, said "I would say that Pat Robertson is way out on his own, in a leaking life raft, on this one."

RalphReedRalph Reed, former head of the Christian Coalition,

hired as a consultant to Enron and President Bush,

close ally of criminal lobbyist Jack Abramoff,

leader of the Republican Party in Georgia,

rejected as candidate for Lt. Governor of Georgia.

"It's like guerrilla warfare. If you reveal your location, all it does is allow your opponent to improve his artillery bearings. It's better to move quietly, with stealth, under cover of night. You've got two choices: You can wear cammies and shimmy along on your belly, or you can put on a red coat and stand up for everyone to see. It comes down to whether you want to be the British army in the Revolutionary War or the Viet Cong. History tells us which tactic was more effective. – Ralph Reed, Los Angeles Times, March 22, 1992, admitting that he wants to deceive us regarding his true aims.
"I want to be invisible. I do guerrilla warfare. I paint my face and travel at night. You don't know it's over until you're in a body bag. You don't know until election night." – Ralph Reed, Norfolk Virginian-Pilot, November 9, 1991.
"We should resist the temptation to identify our religious convictions with the platform of a party or the platitudes of favored politicians".   – Ralph Reed, lying to the public about the Christian Coalition's agenda in 1996.

Jay Rogers reviewing Ralph Reed's Politically Incorrect in "Chalcedon Report," 2/95

"Most politically active Christians don't want equal time with homosexuals, abortionists, animal worshipping pagans, witches, radical feminists and pornographers. We want them silenced and mercifully disciplined according to the word of God."

Rev. Jerry FalwellJerry Falwell UNMASKED!
The Truth according to Jerry Falwell :

"I hope I live to see the day, when, as in the early days of our country, we won't have any public schools.  The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them.  What a happy day that will be!"  & – Rev Jerry Falwell, America Can Be Saved, 1979 pp. 52-53, from Albert J Menendez and Ed Doerr, The Great Quotations on Religious Freedom
Extreme and mean-spirited views surface throughout this book, which Falwell tried in vain to disown. His attitude toward the poor and unemployed is a good example – especially in light of Jesus' frequent concern for the less fortunate. Falwell assumes that everyone without a job is lazy and unwilling to work. He calls people on state assistance "that lazy, trifling bunch lined up in unemployment offices who would not work in a pieshop [sic] eating the holes out of donuts." It's worth keeping in mind that these nasty passages appeared in a book that was published in 1979 – a time, like today, when many people were unemployed through no fault of their own. The sluggish economy of the late '70s threw millions of Americans out of work. Many could not find jobs even though they were eager to do so. (The unemployment rate in 1979 was about 6 percent.) Falwell had no sympathy. "My edict for them is, Let them starve," he wrote. Later, he compared the jobless to dogs, telling an anecdote about a friend who once gave him two Irish setters that were used to eating only expensive cuts of meat. When Falwell gave them regular dog food, the dogs at first turned up their noses but soon began to eat it, realizing there would be nothing else. Comments Falwell, "And if we let these bums get hungry enough, they will find a job and they will go to work and become productive citizens."
"Billy Graham is the chief servant of Satan in America."

Why didn't God wise up and help the Rev. Jerry Falwell remove President William Jefferson Clinton from office?  If God only knew what Rev. Falwell claimed to know, he could have saved this well-financed "man of God" the trouble of lying, bearing false witness, and cheating to get this job done!
Maybe God didn't have a VCR or the money to even buy "The Clinton Chronicles", a videotape that Falwell first promoted and then tried to repudiate, when its dishonesty was uncovered.  The videotape purported to show in living color all kinds of evidence that the former Governor of Arkansas was a wholesale thief of public funds, a major drug dealer, and a sinister murderer of some 50 odd people.
( On the Charles Grodin's CNBC national television show Newsweek reporter Jonathan Alter charged on 2/19/98 :) "You have a video out (Clinton Chronicles) which bears false witness – which is really a sin – against President Clinton.  You accuse him of murder. "
( Rev. Falwell responded:)  "That is totally untrue.  Citizens for Honest Government in Calif. produced that film.   I was given a single copy, and gave that particular copy to someone in Wash., who then accused me of circulating it.  We did not."  ( In response to the reporter's follow-up question,) "You give the introduction to the film!"   Falwell countered "I did not introduce the film, and you're wrong."   (The reporter followed up: "Did you not participate in that video?")   Falwell responds: "Absolutely not! (Charles Grodin asks, "Are you on the tape, Reverend?)   Falwell responds: "I don't know if they put me on the tape or not."   Responding to press inquiries, Falwell's spokesman, Mark Demoss: "We had no involvement with the video until long after the fact.   The only role of Rev. Falwell was to tell the American people about it."   Now, don't you think a "man of God" who is charging the President of the United States of dishonesty ought to begin by being honest himself? Or are "men of God" above such laws?  Has this leader of Christian Conservatives simply forgotten what he wrote in direct mailings four years ago, asking his millions of supporters to "help me produce a national television documentary which will expose shocking new facts about Bill Clinton", which I will make available "as soon as I can raise approximately $40,000 needed to produce this video?"
Was the Washington Post imagining things when it wrote on May 21, 1994, "Evangelist Jerry Falwell is selling a videotape that contains scathing attacks on President Clinton, charging, among other things, that the president ordered the murders of 'countless people'?"   That same month, (on CNN's show "Crossfire", Falwell represented and defended this video, saying among other things: )  "I have on hours of videotapes produced the comments, the testimonies, the view of the Arkansas people who are saying these things."  When the video's actual producer was asked about the Rev. Falwell's role in the "Clinton Chronicles", Pat Matrisciana, the founder of Citizens for Honest Government: )  "He did some info-mercials – he bought time and would ask for a donation – and (thereby) sold lots and lots of videos.   He became our largest distributor; it was the 'Falwell video'."

On a memorable trip to Sacramento in July 1984. Falwell was confronted on a TV talk show by Rev. Jerry Sloan, who attended a Missouri Bible college with Falwell and knew him well. Then a minister for the Metropolitan Community Church. Sloan criticized Falwell for making derogatory comments about the church – which serves a large gay community – on Falwell's show "Old Time Gospel Hour." Falwell denied making the statements and offered to pay Sloan $5,000, if he produced a tape of the sermon. Sloan did. On the tape Falwell called the church "vile and satanic" and said there will be "a celebration in heaven" when the church is annihilated. Falwell refused to pay. A Sacramento judge later ordered the televangelist to pay the $5,000 and attorney fees. In the end, Sloan received a check for $8,982.90. Part of that settlement was used to form the Lambda Community Center in midtown Sacramento. "Falwell is partly responsible for the center. I'm sure it bugged him," said Sloan.

"At the same time the Rev. Jerry Falwell was accusing pagans, abortionists, feminists, gays, lesbians, the ACLU and People For the American Way of sharing responsibility for the 9/11 attack the televangelist owed over one million dollars in unpaid loans to the owner of the terror flight school in Florida which trained Mohamed Atta and Marwan Al-Shehhi, the MadCowMorningNews has learned." See Falwell, his worst own enemy for words from his own mouth.

Conclusion :

If you are a lover of truth, then please begin by getting and reading books such as the one from which the excerpts above has been derived, namely Anatomy of a Scandal, by James Retter, and then spreading the good word – which the mainstream media is trying to hide from the great mass of people like you and me. Or the book by the repentant David Brock who was instrumental in spread many of the lies about Bill Clinton who has since tried to make amends for his sins by publishing the truth about his former Conservative partners in crime, in a book called "Blinded By The Right". 0.
The fact that such a man can be voted one of "the most respected men in America" is proof positive that this country is not being informed, but instead is being subjected to wholesale mis-information by a newsmedia now owned and operated by wealthy Conservative individuals and corporations.
Rev. Jerry Falwell is the one who ought to resign, for the sake of Christianity, and perhaps take the advice given by GOD in the movie, "Oh God!", and take up an honorable profession like selling shoes.

Christian Conservatism, the Gospel
according to Marvin (Olasky) :

        The following is a profile:

"Born into a Jewish family in Boston, Marvin Olasky became an avowed Atheist and Marxist in high school and a member of the Communist party in 1972. While attending the University of Michigan, Olasky's beliefs made a complete reversal after a spiritual awakening: either due to a decision to read the New Testament in Russian or a sudden existential crisis while reading Lenin, Olasky found himself a fervent supporter of the Christian conservative movement. He was baptized into the Presbyterian church in 1976; in 1992 he helped found the Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Austin, TX.
Olasky has taught in the journalism department at the University of Texas at Austin since 1983, becoming a full professor in 1993. Midway through his time as associate professor, he came to the attention of Reconstructionist philanthropist Howard Ahmanson, Jr., who gave him the editorship of the Turning Point series of books via his charitable arm, the Fieldstead Institute. Olasky wrote its first installment, A Christian Worldview Declaration (1987), as well as the Capital Research Center series Patterns of Corporate Philanthropy.
This initial work brought him to the attention of the Bradley Foundation, which funded him as a two-year Bradley scholar at the The Heritage Foundation. His two 1988 books on the mass media, Prodigal Press: The Anti-Christian Bias of American News Media and The Press and Abortion, 1838–1988 outlined philosophies that harmonized with the Christian agenda of World magazine, of which he became editor in 1992. He was instrumental in that periodical's 1998 spawning of the World Journalism Institute, which seeks to recruit and train Christian journalists and inject them into the mainstream media.
He has since written over 16 books, most notably The Tragedy of American Compassion (1992), which blamed the countercultural revolution of the 1960s for society's ills thirty years later and claimed that welfare needed a basis in Christianity if it was to have any lasting effect. The book gained the endorsement of William Bennett, who passed it on to Newt Gingrich, who in turn shilled it to every Republican in the House of Representatives. In January 2001, he saw the policies outlined in this book put into law with the creation of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. George W. Bush has called him "compassionate conservatism's leading thinker"; in 1999, he chaired an advisory subcommittee on religion and public policy for the then-governor."

When Billy Graham planned to kill one million people

http://www.counterpunch.org/alexgraham.html
By Alexander Cockburn
Excerpt:

". . . a secret letter from Graham, dated April 15, 1969, drafted after Graham met in Bangkok with missionaries from Vietnam.  These men of God said that if the peace talks in Paris were to fail, Nixon should step up the war and bomb the dikes.  Such an act, Graham wrote excitedly, 'could overnight destroy the economy of North Vietnam'.  Graham lent his imprimatur to this recommendation.  Thus the preacher was advocating a policy to the US Commander in Chief that on Nixon's own estimate would have killed a million people.( the vast majority being non-combatants)  The German High Commissioner in occupied Holland, Seyss-Inquart, was sentenced to death at Nuremberg for breaching dikes in Holland in World War Two.  (His execution did not deter the USAF from destroying the Toksan dam in North Korea, in 1953, thus deliberately wrecking the system that irrigated 75 per cent of North Korea's rice farms. After all, "might makes right".)

In his book, 'The Deadly Deception', Jim Shaw, an ex-33rd degree mason relates how the Rev. Billy Graham was present at his own initiation ceremony as a 33rd degree mason. Since only freemasons are allowed to attend these ceremonies Graham must have been at least a freemason. Huffington House refused to publish Shaw's book until Grahams' name was replaced with a simple reference to "a well known evangelist".
Robert Schuller (Crystal Cathedral/Self-help pulpit guru), Norman Vincent Peale (Positive Thinking apostle), and Oral Roberts (Godfather of the "seed-faith" doctrines in contemporary fundamentalist-charismatic Christianity) are all admittedly 33rd degree Masons.
All of this despite the fact that the rites of the Masonic order, the writings of Albert Pike, and the requisites for Masonic initiates are distinctly and undeniably counter to Christian doctrine and faith. (excerpted and edited from )

More "Leading Lights" of the Religious Right :

  • Chuck Colson was one of the most rotten of the barrel of rotten apples called "the Nixon administration". Serving a prison term for his crimes doesn't appear to have done anything to persuade Colson to turn away from his immoral past. He went right back to his deceitful conservative Republican friends. One of his last lies was the following: "We do not exaggerate when we say that the mandate in the Obama health care program that workers for faith-based organizations get contraception coverage is the greatest threat to religious freedom in our lifetime."
It would be bad enough if all that Chuck Colson had said was that "the mandate in the Obama health care program that workers for faith-based organizations get contraception coverage is the greatest threat to religious freedom in our lifetime,” but the fact that he knew what a lie that was and that he compounded that lie by prefacing it with “We do not exaggerate when we say that. . . " makes his statement a much worse lie!
I'm five years younger than Colson and haven't had the privileges that he has had to work with a U.S. Senator and a president, and yet I am aware of the infinitely greater "threats to religious freedom" that occurred "in our lifetime" in Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Spain, the U.S.S.R., China, North Korea, Cambodia and even closer to home in Cuba. How stupid does one have to be to trust this man who went through a "conversion experience" in which he came out calling himself a "Christian", but went right back to working with the same dishonest bunch of crooks and liars that led him to betray his country for the sake of his boss?
  • Rev. Louis P. Sheldon, founder of the Traditional Values Coalition.  Sheldon who, as a leader of many conservative Christians, has protested loudly against gambling, is now accused of accepted at least $25,000 from eLottery, an online lottery firm, for his assistance in
  • their $2 million pro-gambling campaign.  Despite Sheldon's claim to The Washington Post that he could not remember receiving eLottery money and that he was unaware that Abramoff was involved in the campaign to defeat an anti-gambling bill, checks and e-mails obtained by The Post show that Abramoff paid both Ralph Reed and Rev. Sheldon to pressure members of Congress.  See Key Players in the Investigation of Lobbyist Jack Abramoff in the Washington Post.
  • Rev. Robert H. Schuller
Another darling of the Religious Right, the tele-preacher of the Crystal Cathedral, is in a category by himself, but it's not a category Jesus would identify with. See Schuller's Nazi connections and other problems, to judge for yourself if this preacher of the "power of positive thinking" represents Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. .
  • Eugene A. Evans Scout Leader in California Accused of Abuse, December 7, 2007

San Francisco, Dec. 6 — A scout leader who once sued the City of Berkeley for challenging a national Boy Scout ban on members who are gay or atheist has been arrested on felony charges that for at least five years he sexually abused young males in the troops that he led.
Sgt. Mary Kusmiss of the Berkeley police said the scout leader, Evans, 64, a retired high school teacher and for 35 years leader of the Berkeley Sea Scouts, was arrested after investigators identified four youths, ages 13 to 17, who said they had been sexually abused by him."

  • Daniel and David Lapin  are brothers, both "rabbis" and both religious shills for the Radical Right.  In exchange for millions of dollars from Republican Lobbyist, Jack Abramoff, they have been instrumental in the success of that most disgraceful example of lobbyists at their worst. • At the time of his arrest in February 2005, the "BTK" serial killer of Wichita, Kansas, Dennis Rader, a father of two grown children, was the president of his Lutheran church.
  • John List, was another devout Lutheran lay teacher who almost got away with the well-planned murder of his mother, his wife and his three children in their home in Westfield, N.J. Before he escaped and went into hiding for 18 years, going back to teaching Sunday school under an assumed identity, Mr. List left a Confession letter to his Evangelical Lutheran pastor expressing the conviction that God would forgive him, since "Christ had died for him along with all other sinners."

  •         Instead of being so concerned about homosexuals, maybe conservative Baptists and Pentecostals should worry more about their own clergy:
  • Tony Alamo, a one-time street preacher who built a multimillion-dollar ministry and became an outfitter of the stars, was convicted Friday of taking girls as young as 9 across state lines for sex.
  • Richard Cook : Fairbanks, AK. – A Baptist pastor from an interior village was arrested on charges he molested his adopted teen-age daughter, State Troopers said.  "The Reverend", 46, is accused of having sex with the girl twice and touching her genitals often during the past 19 months, according to court documents.  He has been charged with one count each of first- and second-degree sexual abuse of a minor.
Troopers said Cook first sexually touched the victim, then 13, in Oct. 1997.  Four months later, the molestation became an "almost daily" event despite the girl's protests, according to court documents. The girl's adoptive mother, who had started working outside the home, suspected something was amiss because Cook "changed his behavior and demeanor," according to the documents.  But when she questioned her husband and daughter, both denied anything was going on, troopers said.  The girl attempted suicide before she reported what happened.
Troopers said Cook has since admitted to the sexual contact, stating he knew his actions were wrong but that he "just got mixed up a bit," according to documents.
He was arrested at a Fairbanks motel.  Cook and the women had traveled to town to seek help, said police.  AP 4/27/99
  • William Nathan White, Jr., : Mascotte, FL.  – "A Baptist preacher was charged with molesting three foster children left in his care.  Pastor White, 50, was being held at the county jail on $45,000 bond, charged with three counts of sexual battery of a child under age 12, a capital offense, jail officials said.
Following his arrest, 8 foster children and 3 adopted children were removed from his home and placed in other foster homes according to a spokeswoman for the state Dept. of Children & Families.  State records show that White and his wife, Susan, have taken in at least 20 children since they were licensed by the state to become foster parents in 1995.
White first was accused of sexual battery when a 7-year-old girl, who lived with the family for two weeks, told her natural mother during a visit monitored by social workers that White had molested her a sheriff's spokesman said.  The girl told investigators that while sitting on White's lap, the minister asked her if anyone had ever touched her "private area." White then placed his hand inside her clothing and fondled her, reports said.
In a videotaped interview, a 10-year-old told authorities White had repeatedly molested her since she came to live with him in Aug., according to reports.  An 11-year-old, who lived with the Whites from Aug.  into Nov., said the pastor often had her sit on his lap while she played computer games, and he once fondled her, records said.
Investigators plan to question every child the Whites have had in their custody since 1995.  State social workers are also reviewing their files to determine if there were any concerns raised about the Whites' home in the past."  AP 03/05/99
  • Rev. Darrell Bell: Hamilton, OH.  – "A Pentecostal minister convicted of repeatedly raping his daughter has been sentenced to 17-50 years in prison and fined $7,500.  Yet the judge declined to classify Rev. Bell, 50, as a sexual predator, based on court-ordered psychological exams that concluded he has a low probability of repeating the offense.  Bell has been ruled a sexually-oriented offender, which means he will have to notify local authorities where he is living and check in with them.
His daughter, Dawn Bell, asked to be publicly identified as she helped prosecute her father, including testifying against him at trail.  She said her abuse began at age 10 and continued until she was 18 and moved away.  She later confronted her father and went to prosecutors after he refused to get counseling."  AP 6/12/99
  • Matthew Eric Moore: Washington Court House, OH.  – A former youth pastor who admitted to having sex with a 15-year-old member of his youth group has been sentenced to four years in prison.  Matthew Eric Moore, 30, was sentenced after pleading guilty in Feb.  to one count of sexual battery.  Moore was originally charged with sexual battery and corruption of a minor for encounters with the girl in 1997, when he was 28 and she was a 15-year-old member of the youth group at Heritage Memorial Church.   He was sentenced to one year less than the maximum.  Moore will be placed on probation after his release and must register as a sexual offender.  AP 4/17/99
  • David Joe Rich, 55 : Apopka, FL.  – A minister who molested third-graders at his church school couldn't promise that he wouldn't molest again, and so was sentenced to prison for 7 years and 4 months, followed by 10 years of probation.  The judge acknowledged the remorse of David Joe Rich, and that he took responsibility for his crimes, but said she wanted to ensure he would not harm anyone again. Rich, former pastor of Springs Community Baptist Church, pleaded guilty to molesting 2 girls and trying to molest a third during the 1995-96 school year.  He fondled the girls, ages 8 and 9, at his desk while other students were in the classroom, said the prosecutor.  The desk concealed the probing.
Rich apologized and made no excuses for his conduct but could not explain it.  With God's help and counseling, he said, he hoped never to molest again.  But he said he would be foolish to make a "100 percent" guarantee.  He had resigned when confronted about the abuse 2 years after it ended.
While on probation, Rich must get counseling.  He cannot be alone with children younger than 18 or live near a school or other place where children visit.  The judge told Rich he should bring his ministry to prison.  "There are people in prison who could use your services," she said.  Orlando Sentinel, 12/4/1998
  • Rev. Joseph Millien: West Palm Beach – A former pastor who claimed he was testing a girl's virginity was convicted of sexually molesting the teen-ager.  Rev. Millien, 51, was found guilty of felony sexual activity with the 17-year-old member of the Full Gospel Assembly Church, but acquitted of a sexual battery charge.  He denied having any other sexual contact with the girl.  The judge revoked Millien's bond and ordered him to jail until sentencing scheduled a few weeks later.  Under sentencing guidelines, he could get 6 to 12 years in prison as a first-time offender.  AP, 10/28/98
  • Rev. Raymond Lambert, 51, of Grand Valley Independent Baptist Church, in rural Missouri, his wife Patty, 49, and her brothers, Paul Epling, 53, and Tom Epling, 51 are all accused of repeatedly having sex with girls from their congregation for years, sometimes as part of a religious ritual, some as young as age 4. • Bishop Jakes: Dr. Lee, a fellow Pentecostal clergyman and a graduate of Oral Roberts University and Pat Robertson's Regent University, a sociology professor at Tulane University in New Orleans, wrote a largely flattering but unauthorized biography of Bishop Jakes writes about the bishop's incessant fund-raising and mansion-dwelling, Bentley-driving lifestyle.
    "Infomercials"
"Rather than simply spreading the gospel, Jakes' television broadcasts double as infomercials to promote his movie, his forthcoming conferences, cruises, and the sale of his latest video or book. Every time Jakes preaches a new sermon series ... it can procure him a fortune."
    "Rich like Jesus":
"Jakes felt betrayed by West Virginians for criticizing his opulent lifestyle. ... Jakes contended that soldiers gambled for Jesus Christ's cloak while he was on the cross, so he must have had great wealth, and therefore Christ's followers should emulate him by being wealthy."

And here's MORE :

  • Father Bruce Ritter

"A decade ago, (early 1990's) it was Father Bruce Ritter, director of the massive Catholic Church-supported Covenant House for runaway children, whose alleged sexual abuse was covered up by the church but eventually exposed to the world. Ritter, who had served on the Reagan administration's Commission on Pornography, was hailed as an 'unsung hero' by President Reagan in his 1984 State of the Union address and in 1990 was visited by President George Bush.
Those ringing endorsements should give pause to those who now celebrate faith-based charities as the panacea for a troubled social order. Months after meeting with Bush, Ritter stood accused of having had sex with a young male in a New Orleans hotel during a break in the pornography commission hearings. Two other men connected with Ritter's program also came forth to accuse him of having sex with them when they were minors, and an investigation by Covenant House's board of directors turned up extensive evidence of sexual misconduct. Ritter, who had run what the Los Angeles Times called 'the largest child-care agency in the country,' was forced to resign in disgrace from Covenant House." • In 2008 Mike Guglielmucci, a pastor with one of Australia's biggest youth churches, Planetshakers, became a sensation when he went public with news of his terminal cancer. In one church performance that has attracted 300,000 hits on YouTube, he performs his hit song with an oxygen tube in his nose. The only problem is that this "man of God" doesn't need prayers for a miraculous cure, because he's not even sick, except perhaps in the head.

He just made up the cancer story. http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,24216087-1246,00.html

Some "Lay" Religious Leaders of the Right :

        – Ann Coulter, nationally syndicated Conservative spokeswoman:
  • Coulter Right-wing pundit Ann Coulter titled her August 30 syndicated column on the Rhode Island Senate race: "They Shot the Wrong Lincoln." The headline is a reference to Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R-RI), whom she excoriated throughout the piece – calling him a "half-wit" and a "silver-spooned moron" – while expressing her support for his challenger in the September 12 Republican primary, Stephen Laffey. This is not the first time Coulter has alluded to killing those she disagrees with:
  • Commenting on radio host Melanie Morgan's assertion that, if New York Times executive editor Bill Keller were convicted of treason, she "would have no problem with him being sent to the gas chamber," Coulter said, "I prefer a firing squad, but I'm open to a debate on the method of execution." She later suggested that (other) Times staff members should be "executed."
  • Coulter said of the suggestion that media had been hurt by the military: "Would that it were so! ... that the American military were targeting journalists."
  • Coulter suggested that Rep. John P. Murtha (D-PA) is "the reason soldiers invented fragging," – military slang meaning the intentional killing of a member of one's own unit.
  • Coulter argued that the national debate during the Monica Lewinsky controversy should not have focused on whether former President Bill Clinton "did it," but rather "whether to impeach or assassinate" him.
  • Coulter said of Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens: "We need somebody to put rat poison in Justice Stevens' crème brulée.''
  • Commenting on the young American who fought with the Taliban, in her address at the "Conservative Political Action Conference" (CPAC) in 2002 : "When contemplating college liberals, you really regret once again that John Walker is not getting the death penalty.  We need to execute people like John Walker in order to physically intimidate liberals, by making them realize that they can be killed too.  Otherwise they will turn out to be outright traitors."
( Coulter would obviously like to be among those doing the killing of college liberals.  But she is totally oblivious of the fact that the Taliban which Walker joined are ultra-Conservatives who hate the United States for being such a symbol of Liberalism!   I trust that she is likewise ignorant of the fact that John (whose last name is Lindh, and whose middle name is the same as George W. Bush's), joined the Taliban at the very time that the U. S. A. had given the Taliban government of Afghanistan 43 million dollars. If John Lindh was an enemy of the U.S. for helping the Taliban at that time, then so was George W. Bush.  Thank Mammon for "Christians" like Coulter!   When asked where she worshipped, Coulter answered "Redeemer Presbyterian Church", in Manhattan. Funny, but the membership secretary of that church has no knowledge of Ann Coulter ever having attended her church! Conservative "Christians", however, view Ms. Coulter as an authority on Christianity.)

Bush Religion Adviser Quits Campaign Post
    Sexual Harassment Allegations Surface
By Alan Cooperman, Washington Post Staff Writer
    Friday, August 20, 2004; Page A06
Deal W. Hudson, publisher of the conservative Catholic magazine Crisis and a close ally of the Bush White House, has resigned as an adviser to the Bush-Cheney reelection campaign because of allegations that he got an underage female Fordham University student whom he knew to have emotional problems drunk and then molested a decade ago.
Hudson, 54, had been a key player in the Republican Party's effort to attract Roman Catholic voters. Because of his connections to the White House and his friendship with senior presidential adviser Karl Rove, he was widely regarded as a Catholic power broker in Washington.
Hudson announced Wednesday in the online edition of National Review magazine that he was leaving his unpaid position in the Bush campaign because 'a liberal Catholic newspaper' was about to publish an investigation detailing 'allegations from over a decade ago involving a female student at the college where I then taught.' "
